Voice for Choice is calling on MPs to oppose the sex selection amendment to the Serious Crime Bill.
This bill will not tackle the causes of boy-preference, will not prevent sex selective abortion, but will have a range of negative consequences:
- racial/ethnic profiling of women from communities perceived to be at risk of sex selective practice
- a chilling effect on doctors and a reduction in abortion access in the second trimester
- a fundamental change to some of the key principles of the 1967 Abortion Act, setting the scene for a wholesale attack on safe, legal abortion in the UK.
